Bio: Bakura Ryou has endured more tragedy than anyone should have to. When we first meet him in the manga, it is revealed through his inner monologue that his mother and younger sister, Amane were tragically killed in a car accident a few years prior. His father is an archaeologist and is seldom in the picture, almost always traveling the world, digging for artifacts. On one of his rare visits home, Ryou's father gave him a beautiful golden pendant with the Eye of Wadjet in its middle and tines hanging from it. When Bakura starts at Domino High, he quickly becomes friends with Yugi and Co. But is everything as it seems? Read the manga and find out!
Personality: Due to everything he's been through, Bakura Ryou is emotionally fragile. He writes letters to his dead sister to cope with his grief. His emotional weakness makes him an easy target for the evil spirit dwelling within his Millennium Ring. Bakura is frequently possessed and manipulated by the spirit, all without his knowledge. Fond of RPGs, Bakura wishes he could invite Yugi and Co over to play, but is afraid to, as the people he becomes friends with have habits of falling into comas when he hangs out with them.
Thoughts: I honestly feel bad for this guy. He's victimized, not only by his Other, but also by Malik, from his introductory arc until Yami Yugi frees him by beating Zorc/Yami Bakura in the Memory World RPG. Not only is Bakura victimized externally, he is also victimized internally. His addiction to the Ring leads him back to it, time and again, even though he knows what will happen when he dons it. Like the alcoholic who needs that one last drink, Bakura can't leave the Ring alone. Hopefully, life will be more merciful to him from here out.
